The Story of a Long – Distance Marriage – A Review

Hey Bibliophiles,

Welcome to my blog! ❤

Happy New Year 2019 everyone. ❤❤

Today, I am posting a review on Siddhesh Inamdar’s book,“The Story of a Long – Distance Marriage”.

Blurb –

Rohan and Ira’s life takes an unexpected turn when Ira decides to leave for New York to study. They’ve been married for only fifteen months, but this is the opportunity of a lifetime, and Rohan is not going to come between his wife and her dream. So, sad but supportive, he stays back in Delhi, where he is on the brink of a promotion at a national daily. After all, his relationship with Ira is strong enough to survive the distance – they are the new-age lovers who don’t let marriage come in the way of carriers and ambitions.

Rohan prepares for a year without Ira, getting by with a little help from his friends: Yusuf, his on-call confidant who lives in Bangalore; Alisha, a colleague he likes catching up with over tea; and Tanuj, his new role model at work. Life without Ira is going surprisingly well. Until the day, that is, she reveals the real reason she left.

Beautifully written and unflinchingly honest, this is the love story of our times.

My Review –

The book shows urban relationships with quite ease. Written so beautifully and being unflinchingly honest, this book explores the marriage of Rohan and Ira. Being married for only fifteen months, they are quite comfortable living in Delhi with their dog Momo. One day, Ira decides to leave for New York to study. And then begins Rohan’s life without her. His friends, Yusuf, Alisha and Tanuj help him live without Ira.

Rohan is smoothly living his life without Ira, when one day, during the call, Ira tells him the real reason of going to New York. Well, I’m not going to disclose the reason. Rohan’s life after that changes drastically, he’s almost on the verge of losing himself to depression, when Yusuf’s Delhi visit changes him.

The author weaves the story naturally, blending in it the values of love, friendship, aloofness, relationship, and time. Ira is the star of the book, as she follows her dream and goes to US. Rohan is also good at his place, as the caring husband, cheerful friend.

Tanuj, Yusuf, Gaurav, Alisha support Rohan in absence of Ira, and are Rohan’s well wishers.

Verdict –

The book is a reality check of new – age marriages, and is written beautifully. ❤

Definitely Recommended to every bibliophile.
