Detention – Review

Hey fellow bibliophiles,
how are you all? ๐Ÿ“š

First of all, Happy New Year everyone! May we all read our favourite books and go past our Goodreads goal this year! ๐Ÿ“šโค๏ธ

The first review for this year is of Riddhika Jainโ€™s โ€œDetentionโ€.

About the book

Do you read with an open mind? What happens when life doesn’t turn out to be as you expected it to? What if your friendship takes a twisted turn? Or, if your love life gets as dark as it can be? Would you find solace in that one person who puts you in danger? Kayla Anderson was never a bad student. Always the one with straight A’s. Teachers loved her. And she was the only girl who had no enemies in her entire school. But there she was, sitting in a detention class, alone, due to a false accusation, with the only teacher she couldn’t bear to sit across. What will this detention lead to?

Review

The story of a student first hating her teacher and then falling in love with her, Detention paves the way for upcoming Indian LGBT stories. Written in a simple yet effective way, I really loved the word flow and story building. The characters were amazing in their own way, and the relation between the two protagonists was enjoyable. ๐ŸŒˆ
.
The story was really beautiful, with the hate-love relationship portrayed beautifully. Kayla, the protagonist, is a bold character even though she’s young. Taking very bold decisions and standing for herself when in difficult situations is what makes her stand out. To be honest, I really loved the book for its bold writing, smooth story building and the Sapphic relationship between the MCs was scintillating & on-the-edge. Never ever I found myself to be bored of the book and enjoyed it to the full.
.
The book reminded me of a Wattpad novel I had read around 3 years ago. I’ll definitely recommend this book to all bibliophiles. ๐ŸŒˆ

End Notes

Detention acts as the torchbearer for the upcoming LGBT stories by Indian authors. The tense, yet soft romantic story has a bold writing style, smooth story building and a Sapphic relationship that first begins on a sour note. The book was honestly scintillating for me and I didn’t experience a dull moment at all. The author has done a really good job with her story and I am excited for her upcoming books! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ“–
